Coaching Details

To be a Goatheads coach (or any Level 1 NICA volunteer / adult working with student-athletes on a team), the cost is $25 registration fee plus $38 background check for a first-year coach. Returning coaches will have a $25 registration fee plus $11 background check (year 2 to year 6). Any adult who participates in team practices must be a registered coach with the New Mexico League and is background checked. Coach Registration will open March 1, 2025. If you are interested in coaching or volunteering, please submit a request on the contact form and someone will reach out to you. Additional details on NICA coach licensing can be found on the NICA National website.

The $25 registration covers:

• Annual NICA Membership fee

• Insurance during practices, pre-rides, and races

• Training webinars

• Access to the numerous resources through NICA’s industry connections, including discounts on products

• Risk Management best practices studies and implementation

• The how-to’s of starting a team and working with middle and high schoolers
  *Background check requirement additional ($38 new; $11 returning)

2025 Leaders Summit NM - April 12th and 13th - Glorieta Camps

Registration Fee $25

The New Mexico Interscholastic Cycling League’s first annual Leaders Summit will bring together coaches —both new and experienced. The Summit will include NICA On-The-Bike Skills clinics including the progressive steps needed to teach anyone (even yourself) both basic and advanced mountain biking skills.
